Salon Customer Survey Questions: 25 Examples by Category
25 salon customer survey questions grouped by booking, service, outcome, pricing and loyalty, ready to drop into a post-visit survey.
Good salon customer survey questions start from a simple fact: a haircut is not a transaction, it's a 45-minute conversation where a stylist is reading your face, your hair, and your patience all at once. That's why salon clients remember the bad visits in far more detail than they remember the good ones, and why they so rarely tell you about it directly. A client who's unhappy with a color result or felt rushed at checkout usually doesn't complain. They just book somewhere else next time, and you find out three months later when you notice they haven't been in.
The questions below are built around that gap. They're grouped into booking, the service itself, outcome, pricing, and loyalty, because a client who had a great haircut but a miserable checkout experience needs a different fix than a client whose color didn't come out right. Treating those as one "overall satisfaction" number hides the problem you actually need to solve.
Booking and arrival
- How easy was it to book your appointment?
- Did you get a confirmation and a reminder before your visit?
- How long did you wait past your appointment time before being seen?
- Was the reception area clean and comfortable while you waited?
- Did the front desk staff greet you promptly?
The service itself
- How would you rate your stylist/therapist today? (star rating)
- Did your stylist listen to what you asked for before starting?
- Did the service take about as long as you expected?
- Was the result close to what you discussed beforehand?
- How clean did the tools, chair and station feel?
- Did you feel comfortable asking questions during your service?
- Was anything recommended to you that felt like a hard upsell rather than a genuine suggestion?
Outcome and satisfaction
- Overall, how satisfied are you with today's visit? (CSAT, 1-5)
- How likely are you to book with the same stylist again?
- On a scale of 0-10, how likely are you to recommend us to a friend or family member? (NPS)
- Did the final look match what was shown to you in photos or discussed in consultation?
- If you colored or chemically treated your hair, has it held up the way you expected over the following days?
Pricing and value
- Did the final price match what you were quoted before the service started?
- Did you feel the service was worth the price you paid?
- Were any add-on products or services clearly explained before you agreed to them?
Loyalty and retention
- What would make you choose a different salon next time, if anything?
- How did you first hear about us?
- Would you be interested in a membership or package for repeat visits?
- Is there a specific stylist or service you'd like to see us add?
- Anything we could've done better today? (open text, optional)
Turning this into a survey your clients actually finish
Twenty-five questions is a reference list, not a form you hand someone at checkout. For your everyday post-visit check-in, pull three or four: the stylist star rating, the NPS question, and one open text box for anything that went wrong. Send it by WhatsApp within an hour of checkout, while the client is still thinking about their hair and before they've mentally moved on to the rest of their day.
Save the fuller list for moments when you need more than a pulse check: after a new stylist joins and you want to know if clients notice a quality gap, after a price increase to see if value perception held up, or during a quarterly review when retention numbers look soft and you need to know whether it's pricing, booking friction, or something about the service itself.
It also helps to split delivery by what the client actually experienced. Someone who came in for a quick blowout doesn't need the full chemical-treatment follow-up question, and a first-time client hasn't got an opinion on "would you book with the same stylist again" yet. SurveyKar's salon booking and appointment tools let a feedback request fire automatically once a specific service type is marked complete, so the questions a client sees actually match what they walked in for.

Frequently asked questions
As close to checkout as possible. A client who just paid and is walking out the door is far more likely to answer a two-question WhatsApp message than a next-day email. If you only get one shot at timing, take it at the counter or in the first hour after the visit.
No. A first-time client can't answer "would you book the same stylist again" or "is there a stylist you'd like us to add," because they don't have the history for it. Keep the first-visit survey focused on the booking experience and the immediate result, and save loyalty and retention questions for clients who've been in more than once.
Route it to a manager immediately rather than letting it sit in a weekly report. A client who rates their visit a 2 and hears back from the salon within the hour is far more likely to come back than one who never hears anything at all. A high rating, on the other hand, is your moment to ask for a public review while the goodwill is fresh.
They do, provided the ask is short and timed well. A five-question WhatsApp survey sent right after checkout gets meaningfully better response rates than a long email survey sent the next day, mostly because it catches the client while the experience, good or bad, is still top of mind.
