Automation Triggers

The three events that can start an automation.

A trigger is the event that starts the automation. Each automation has exactly one.

    Survey completed

Fires when a contact submits a survey response.

You can scope it to one specific survey, or leave it on any survey so it applies workspace-wide. Scoping to a single survey is almost always what you want — a workspace-wide thank-you email fires for every form anyone submits.

    Contact created

Fires when a new contact is added to your CRM — by hand, by CSV import, or automatically from a survey or form submission.

Use it for a welcome sequence, or to tag and file new contacts consistently.

Warning — A large CSV import fires this trigger once per imported contact. If the automation sends an email, that is one email per row. Deactivate the automation before a bulk import.

    Contact tagged

Fires when a specific tag is added to a contact. You choose which tag.

This is the most flexible of the three: anything that tags a contact — a survey follow-up action, an import, another automation, or someone typing it in — can start a workflow. It is the closest thing to conditional routing that automations currently offer.
