The Number Rating question presents a row of numbers that respondents click to score something. It is one of the most versatile rating types — simple enough for any audience and produces numeric data that is easy to average, trend, and compare across time periods.

    When to use it

    Reach for Number Rating when:

    • you want a flexible, general-purpose rating that is not tied to a specific metric (NPS, CSAT, CES)
    • you need numeric data you can average and trend
    • the scale needs to be explained with custom endpoint labels

    How to configure it

Open the question in the builder and expand Settings:

    • Scale — choose 1–5, 1–7, or 1–10.
    • Low label — text shown beside the lowest number, e.g. "Very poor".
    • High label — text shown beside the highest number, e.g. "Excellent".
    • Color — set the highlight color for selected numbers.
    • Required — force a selection before the respondent can continue.

    Tips

Tip — Always label both endpoints. Without endpoint labels, different respondents interpret the scale differently — one person's "5 = great" is another person's "5 = average".

Tip — A 1–5 scale suits short surveys and mobile respondents. A 1–10 scale gives more granularity for research contexts where statistical precision matters.
