Star Rating
The familiar star-icon rating used in reviews and app stores.
The Star Rating question uses star icons (★) to collect a score. It is universally recognised from product reviews, app stores, and restaurant ratings — respondents understand it instantly without any instruction.
When to use it
Reach for Star Rating when:
- the question is about quality, satisfaction, or overall impression
- your audience includes people who may not be comfortable with a numbered scale
- you want a rating that feels familiar and friendly rather than clinical
How to configure it
Open the question in the builder and expand Settings:
- Number of stars — choose 3, 5, or 10.
- Icon — switch between stars, hearts, or custom icons.
- Color — set the fill color for selected stars.
- Half stars — allow half-star precision (0.5 increments).
- Required — force a selection before the respondent can continue.
Tips
Tip — 5-star scales are the most universally understood. Use 10 stars only when you need finer granularity and your audience expects it — such as a film or book rating context.
Tip — If you plan to benchmark scores against industry data, consider switching to NPS or CSAT which have published benchmarks. Star ratings are intuitive but are not standardised across companies.
