Multiple Choice

Let respondents select all options that apply.

The Multiple Choice question (checkboxes) lets respondents check as many options as apply. Use it when selections are not mutually exclusive — more than one answer can be true at the same time.

    When to use it

    Reach for Multiple Choice when:

    • the question is "select all that apply"
    • respondents might genuinely have more than one valid answer (interests, features used, reasons for a decision)
    • you want to measure which items in a list are most commonly selected

For exactly one answer use Single Choice.

    How to configure it

Open the question in the builder and expand Settings:

    • Options — add, edit, reorder, and delete choices.
    • "Other" option — adds a write-in field for answers not in the list.
    • Shuffle options — randomises the order on each load.
    • Minimum selections — require at least N options to be checked.
    • Maximum selections — cap the number of options that can be checked.
    • Columns — display options side-by-side.
    • Required — force at least one selection before the respondent can continue.

    Tips

Tip — Set a maximum selection count (e.g. "choose up to 3") when you want respondents to prioritise. Without a cap, many respondents select everything, which gives you little signal about what actually matters.

Tip — In Reports, Multiple Choice answers are shown as a frequency table — the percentage of respondents who selected each option. Add a follow-up open text question to understand why the most-selected options won.
