Single Choice
Ask respondents to pick exactly one option from a list.
The Single Choice question (radio buttons) forces respondents to select exactly one answer. Use it whenever options are mutually exclusive — there is only one correct or preferred answer and picking more than one would not make sense.
When to use it
Reach for Single Choice when:
- options are mutually exclusive (gender, plan tier, country, preferred contact method)
- you want the simplest possible analysis — one value per respondent
- the list is short enough to show all options at once (2–7 options)
For longer lists use Dropdown. For "select all that apply" use Multiple Choice.
How to configure it
Open the question in the builder and expand Settings:
- Options — add, edit, reorder, and delete choices. Drag the handle to reorder.
- "Other" option — adds a write-in field so respondents can type an answer not in the list.
- Shuffle options — randomises the order on each load to prevent order bias.
- Columns — display options side-by-side instead of stacked (useful for Yes/No or short lists).
- Required — force a selection before the respondent can continue.
Tips
Tip — Enable Shuffle options for preference questions. The first option in a list gets disproportionately more selections simply because it appears first.
Tip — If your list has more than 7 items, switch to Dropdown to avoid overwhelming the page.
